The newly appointed Secretary General of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), Mr. Abdoulaye DIA, will visit TRANSCO CLSG on March 12, 2025. During his visit, he will engage in discussions with senior management and meet the staff.
Mr. DIA’s appointment as the new WAPP SG was confirmed at the WAPP General Assembly on November 29, 2024, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. He is an experienced electromechanical engineer and a graduate of the École Supérieure Interafricaine d’Électricité (ESIE).
Mr. DIA has a strong commitment to African integration, demonstrated through his academic and professional achievements in various multicultural and multinational environments. His career includes significant leadership roles in the energy sector at both national and international levels.
Before joining WAPP, he held key positions at the Société Nationale d’Électricité du Sénégal (SENELEC), including Director of Communication and IT, Director of Energy Transmission, and Secretary General. He also served as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Petroleum and Energy of Senegal and chaired the Board of Directors of the Special Fund for the Support of the Electricity Sector in Senegal. Additionally, he led the Société d’Exploitation de Manantali et de Felou (SEMAF) under the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS).
Mr. DIA’s extensive experience with WAPP, including his roles as Chair of the Engineering and Operations Committee (EOC) and SENELEC’s representative on the Executive Board, equips him with a deep understanding of WAPP’s mission and challenges. WAPP is confident that his leadership will help address these challenges and strengthen regional cooperation to ensure sustainable energy access across the sub-region.
WAPP, a specialized institution of ECOWAS, aims to integrate national electricity systems into a unified regional market to provide reliable and affordable electricity to ECOWAS member states.
