CLSG Project is highly professional, says German Amb. to Liberia

The multi-million dollars CLSG Interconnection Project is a landmark cross-border project involving the construction of a transmission line of over 1,303 years km, with the aim to interconnect the energy systems (Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea) into the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) regional energy network.

As the project makes strong progress in its implementation, with the energization of four substations in Liberia (Yekepa, Buchanan, Monrovia, and Mano substations) and two in Sierra Leone (Kenema and Binkongor substations), the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Liberia, Dr. Jakob Haselhuber has been following the trend of events.

On Monday, October 25, 2021, the German Diplomat joined the visiting KfW delegation and TRANSCO CLSG on an inspection tour of CLSG substations in Liberia. The German Development Bank (KfW) funded five substations in the country. TRANSCO CLSG Country Manager, Jerry T. Taylor, along with his team is leading the tour in Mt. Coffee, Montserrado County, Mano, Grand Cape Mount County, Yekepa, Nimba County, Botota in central Liberia (Bong County) and Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Ambassador Haselhuber is passionate about improving the energy sector of Liberia; therefore, the tour affords him the opportunity to understand the CLSG project more and what role he could play to boost the energy sector in the country. “The CLSG project is highly professional. I am most impressed by the fact that it (CLSG project) is multinational. Not just the power grid but also the team,” Amb. Haselhuber said following his tour of the Mount Coffee substation on Monday. He is also impressed by the level of works being done and described the design of the substations which were funded by the KfW as beautiful.

“His impression has been very very positive, and we are happy that the inspection mission is positive,” Taylor said, adding that the Botota substation is undergoing intensive construction activities. He thanked the government and people of Liberia for the remarkable support to the CLSG project.

He lauded the unwavering support and leadership of the Ministers of Justice, Energy, Finance and Gender as well as the EPA, FDA, the National Police, and local administrations in the seven counties including Nimba, Bong, Bassa, Margibi, Montserrado, Bomi and Cape Mount. He said their intervention has assured the stability in the project implementation.

Mr. Taylor also thanked the persons affected by the project (PAPs) who he said, have been very cooperative which has contributed to the unprecedented success of the project. “We are grateful.”
