Liberia signs the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Cote d’Ivoire

The Director General of CI-ENERGIES, Mr. SIDIBE Noumory, along with his counterpart from the CIE, representing Cote d’Ivoire, have signed the power purchase agreement between Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia on Friday, October 21, 2022 on the 20th floor of the Sciam Building in Plateau. Mr. Monie CAPTAN, Acting Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) signed for Liberia.

In his opening remarks, the Director General of CI-ENERGIES said the PPA contract signing with Liberia is part of the electricity interconnection project between Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea aimed at consolidating the foundations of strong and sustainable energy cooperation for the well-being of the populations of the CLSG countries.

He expressed delight that the long negotiation process has yielded good news with the signing of the PPA by Liberia. This, he disclosed is result of cordial collaboration among the teams of CI-ENERGIES, the CIE, the partners of the West African Power Trading System (WAPP), the Regional Authority of the Electricity Sector (ERERA), TRANSCO CLSG and International Financial Institutions.

He emphasized that the PPA contract signing with Liberia, comes after those of Guinea and Sierra Leone, all inspired by the leadership and political will of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Alassane OUATTARA, to make Côte d’Ivoire the energy hub of West Africa.

The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa COULIBALY, with the presence of his counterpart of Liberia, Minister Gesler Murray and His Excellency Willye MAI KING, Ambassador of Liberia to Côte d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, Liberia will sign the Transmission Service Agreement (TSA) on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. The event will be held at the TRANSCO CLSG headquarters in Abidjan. Mr. Monie Captan, CEO of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) will sign the agreement with TRANSCO CLSG General Manager, Mohammed M. Sherif.

Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Mr. Samuel Tweah will grace the ceremony along with his colleague Minister Gesler Murray, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Liberia.
