The management of the regional transmission company, TRANSCO CLSG extends its gratitude to the Chairperson and members of the Board of Directors for their invaluable support towards the implementation of the CLSG interconnection project.

“Your willingness is clearly demonstrated by the invaluable support shown to TRANSCO CLSG by the governments and the national utilities in the CLSG countries. We are grateful for such a great support,” General Manager Mohammed Sherif said in his remarks at the just ended 8th Board of Directors meeting held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Mr. Sherif furthered: “You have made it possible for this dreamed project to soon become a reality when we construct the line to provide reliable and affordable electricity to millions of our people in Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.”

He also acknowledged the resilience and the efforts of his team that has made it possible to achieve key deliverables in 2015 on the project implementation and institutional functions.

In his update to the Board, Mr. Sherif said TRANSCO CLSG has completed key project studies, reviewed the procurement strategy, concluded the procurement plans for all donors, prepared the pre-qualification documents and launched the bidding process in December 2015.  “We have also launched the bid for the Owner’s Engineer Phase 2 and currently concluding the process.” The process is expected to be finalized in April 2016.

He informed the Board that in collaboration with authorities in the CLSG countries, the transmission company officially launched workshops on the environmental and social safeguard activities to put in place a comprehensive framework to implement the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESPM) and the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).

“In this vein, I’m delighted to inform you that by the end of 2015, the Right of Ways (RoW) were delivered in all the four CLSG countries. In addition, National Committees were set up in three CLSG countries including Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. We are currently working with authorities to conclude the launch in in Côte d’Ivoire.

TRANSCO CLSG also undertook activities required to build the Company as a reputable international organization. The Company successfully established Country and field offices in the CLSG countries. TRANSCO CLSG, with the invaluable support of the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, through CI-ENRGIES and the Board, was able to acquire a building that is being used as its permanent Headquarters in Abidjan.

“We remain resolute in building on the success of the previous year by accelerating the implementation of the CLSG project with a shared passion and commitment to succeed. We are very confident that with the same support and commitment from the CLSG countries, donors and key stakeholders including you, we will break the ground and start the construction works in 2016,” the General Manager emphasized.

Before they started proceedings, the Chairperson and members of the Board observed a moment of silence to honor those killed in the Grand Basam attack on March 13, 2016.
