The President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina says the Côte d’Ivoire–Liberia–Sierra Leone–Guinea (CLSG) Interconnection Project will boost regional security and the overall economic integration of the Mano River Union Countries with Côte d’Ivoire through increased power trade and security of energy supply.
Me. Adesina added that the project will also contribute to climate change mitigation through replacement of thermal-based generation with hydropower. The Bank is one of the key financiers of the CLSG interconnection project. The Bank also funds the rural electrification component of the CLSG project.
“As I have always said, Africa cannot develop in the dark. You need electricity for small- and medium-sized enterprises to work, you need electricity for hospitals and you need electricity for kids to go to school and learn. Electricity access is a lifeline for Africa’s present and future,” Mr.Adesina told reporters in an interview.
